Baseball5 (official name: Baseball5, abbreviation: B5) is an innovative baseball project launched by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) in 2018. As a "street-simplified version" of traditional baseball and softball, it has rapidly become a highly popular global trendy sport with core advantages of low cost, small venue requirements and fast pace.
Core Features
Minimalist Equipment & Venue: Only 1 rubber ball and a flat 21m*21m area are required to start a game, no bats, gloves or professional stadiums needed.
Easy-to-Learn Rules: Each team has 5 players on the field, supporting mixed-gender teams (at least 2 players of the same gender). There are no pitchers/catchers; batters toss and hit the ball themselves, and basic gameplay can be mastered in 10 minutes.
Efficient & Compact Games: Adopting a 5-inning format, the whole game ends in 30-40 minutes. In case of a tie, the "extra inning rule" can be used to determine the winner quickly, suitable for daily leisure scenarios.
Core Rules
Offense: Batters toss the ball with their hands and hit it with palms/fists. Base runners advance from first base → second base → third base → home plate to score. There is no home run rule.
Defense: 5 players with distinct roles (first baseman, second baseman, third baseman, shortstop, center fielder) achieve 3 outs through catchouts, tagouts and forceouts to switch to offense. The double base at first base reduces collision risks.
